Soccer Coaching Drills - A Guide To Trapping
Let us suppose that 50% of the soccer coaching drills have focused on perfecting the trapping skills of their players. You won’t take it seriously. But interestingly, researchers say that trapping, besides dribbling and passing is mainly responsible for consistently winning matches.
Trapping is the ability of the players to intercept the ball and then keep it near their body. Such soccer exercises allow players to use thighs, feet and chest in doing so.
It’s vital for your players to master the skill of trapping the ball. If the players don’t know how to trap the ball, the primary skill, they would fail to have control over the game. Some of the following techniques help in enhancing the trapping skills of the players.
Engaging the feet: Firstly, train your players in using their feet to deal with the ball which is a basic skill. In kids soccer drills, the kids must be particularly trained on using the inside of their foot. It is emphasized for the reason that inside area of the foot is big enough to catch hold of the ball.
During soccer coaching drills, the high ranking and senior players should be educated on the use of foot, its crown, and instep of the foot plus the whole foot. Guide the players to use their shin or ankle as the best bet to hold the ball if the ball is leaping too much.
Thigh Movement: Speedy and bouncy ball can be controlled by simply using the thigh. Guide the players to come in front of the ball, take one thigh up to capture the ball and other thigh to stay grounded. Most importantly, practice dropping your knee once it connects with the ball for the ball to drop down and stay with you rather than getting away.
This activity has to be practiced regularly in order to become an expert at it by first using the knee to catch the ball and then bringing the knee down to prevent it from getting away.
Use the Chest: You can also use your chest to trap the ball that is high up in the air, just like your thigh. Make the players stand in front of the ball and then ask them to take their chests out as if to confront the ball. When they do so, the ball will instantly loose its speed and easily get down to the feet.
Nevertheless, soccer training drills should be careful not to expose young players too much to this skill. It is natural for them to use their hands in dealing with the ball while attempting to use their chest. This practice could lead to a problem by kids getting comfortable using their hands to deal with the ball.
