If you’re investigating an institute to help you in your career goals, you first will need to assess what you want your career to be. There are so many specialty colleges catering to very specific fields of employment that vary vastly. From business institutes to culinary arts, or from criminal justice to fashion, there’s really no end to the choices. Fashion and design colleges are showing up everywhere for those trying to find solid jobs in these fields.

You can spend all day on the internet looking through pages of institutions of fashion and design that all claim to be the best. Better still, they will have testimonials of job placement and generally incredible experiences from the alumni and current students. I have taken the time to lay out several of the better options for colleges offering a fashion design course that will turn out the designers of tomorrow.

These fashion colleges all sit at the same level, and consequently there is no order to their listing here.

We can comfortably begin with LIM College. Centered in the heart of Manhattan in New York City, LIM has been creating leaders in the fashion world for many years. Their key draw lies with their undergraduate programs, including fashion merchandising, marketing, management, and visual merchandising. They also give graduate MBA programs for those looking for a serious stake in the fashion world.

Another institution that is making a lot of noise in the fashion industry is FIDM, more informally known as the Fashion Institute of Merchandising. Among the best things about this school is that it is in fact divided amongst four campuses, all of which provide the same undergraduate degrees for prospective students. These campuses are situated in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County and San Diego. An exciting factoid about FIDM is that they’re the location for the filming of Project Runway, a hit television show that airs on Lifetime.

And lastly, the last college to be mentioned will be the Academy of Art University. This school won the “Best Fashion Design & Apparel Design Schools & Programs of 2008″ award for their unbelievable dedication to sending out their students to employment. Among the remarkable features of this school is that they do offer degrees in the fashion world online. So you do not need to pack up and head out to New York or California. Among the clients that pick up fresh fashion designer graduates from AAU include: DKNY, Gap Inc., Louis Vuitton, BCBG and many others.

These are three very strong colleges to get you well on your way to a good job in the fashion industry. You can settle for the numerous other colleges that litter the internet, however these three have a standing that makes for quite a lift to your resume.
